The application for the funding of the Allen O’Neill Redevelopment Project, which was submitted by the Darien Housing Authority to
the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority for Low Income Housing Tax Credits in April 2009, was not approved for the 2009 allocation
period. Of the 28 applicants for affordable housing projects in the state, only 9 were funded.
The Allen O’Neill Redevelopment was not eligible for additional funding from the Department of Economic Development and other funding
sources due to the fact that no LIHTCs were allocated to the project. However, the DHA and our co-developer partner, Arthur Anderson,
will be submitting an application for the 2010 LIHTC allocation next April, as we are highly confident that the proposed plan for
the Allen O’Neill site is the optimal one.
It is expected that the earliest the DHA could expect to begin construction would be spring of 2011. We will continue to have public
meetings on the subject of the Allen O’Neill Redevelopment as information becomes available. We will also continue to post pertinent
and relevant information to this website.
